ZF Services integrated with TRW Aftermarket

From next year the company’s global aftermarket parts division will one entity

ZF Friedrichshafen‘s integration of TRW Automotive has taken a further step with the global parts supplier confirming ZF Services will combine with TRW Aftermarket from January 1 next year.

The latest announcement is part of a series of moves from both companies after ZF bought TRW Automotive in May last year and renamed it its active & passive safety technology division.

The aftermarket activities are to remain under this division from 2017 and the TRW brand name will also remain.

ZF says TRW will sit alongside the Sachs, Lemförder, Boge, and Openmatics portfolios to “create the world’s second-largest service organisation in the automotive supplier segment.”

ZF CEO Dr Stefan Sommer says the decision to create a single entity comes on the back of the success of the company’s previous integrations.

“With its aftermarket activities, ZF ensures that its products perform powerful and reliable throughout their entire life cycle and a professional diagnosis and repair with original equipment spare parts is provided in the workshops,” Sommer says.

“It is important to us to speak with one voice in this segment and to ensure that our products and services are available in all markets worldwide.”

Employing close to 8,000 workers and with a sales volume of approximately €3 billion (A$4.4 billion), the new aftermarket division will be headed by current ZF Services business unit chief Helmut Ernst.

“Our colleagues from TRW Aftermarket and ZF Services have been leading this development with a high level of professionalism and speed,” Ernst says on his role in leading the integration.

“They are showing the same commitment in identifying the ‘best of both’ across our business operations and structures and are implementing this concept as the benchmark for the new organisation.”

ZF says while more will be announced at the Automechanika Frankfurt show in September, the division will have an important role in the company’s autonomous vehicles venture.
