World Courier opens latest clinical depot

World Courier chooses Melbourne to open its 11th clinical test depot solely for the pharmaceutical industry

November 4, 2009

World Courier has opened its 11th worldwide specialist clinical trial depot, with the latest addition in Melbourne.

The new venue was opened earlier this month in conjunction with a similar facility in Johannesburg, South Africa and houses state of the art facilities and logistical solutions designed solely for the pharmaceutical industry.

World Courier President Wayne Heyland says Africa and Australia make up 15 percent of current global clinical trials outside the US- an estimated market of nearly US$3 billion.

“As clinical research represents the most critical, yet expensive phase of drug development, demand for more cost-effective outsourcing options has intensified in recent years, with clients actively soliciting infrastructure support in emerging and strategic nations,” Heyland says.

“Given the relative isolation of both locations – as well as their inherent appeal – our local depots offer a much-needed and highly cost-efficient ‘one-stop’ logistical alternative for bio-pharmaceutical companies with demanding clinical trial storage and distribution needs.”

The new Melbourne facility will use the company’s proprietary monitoring system CTM-STAR to track the movement of customers inventories 24 hours a day.
