Woolworths is outsourcing its outsourcing, in a new deal with global logistics group Kuehne + Nagel.
All of the retailer’s global order management for Australian and New Zealand operations will be handled by the firm as part of the new three-year contract.
Kuehne + Nagel’s order management solution will be used as the platform to control all international product sourcing, the company says.
The logistics provider will manage freighting from the export regions of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia, the Americas and Oceania.
Woolworths will also take advantage of the company’s consolidation services in Bangkok, Naples, northern Europe and in Australia.
Ian McDonald, Woolworths’ General Manager of Global Sourcing, says Kuehne + Nagel’s expansive network and technology systems will allow cross-divisional visibility to monitor the performance of suppliers.
The partnership will “drive greater efficiency throughout our international supply chain”, he says.
Kuehne + Nagel says its solution offers seamless integration of suppliers across the international supply chain.
The order management solution allows web-based visibility and reporting, with interfaces for other service providers.
An additional application, KN Login, provides a single platform and enables standardisation of the retailer’s logistics operations, the company says.
Jens Pohlmann, National Manager of Kuehne + Nagel Australia, boasts the company is “clearly the leading provider of fully-integrated supply chain management solutions”.
“We are excited about this opportunity to partner with Woolworths, allowing Kuehne + Nagel to add value to their supply chain with our state-of-the-art solutions, dedicated staff and customised services,” he says.
