WiseTech rolls out faster digital Certificates of Origin for exporters

The accreditation allows WiseTech exporters to obtain key trade documents in minutes through a fully digital, 24/7 process

WiseTech Global has been accredited to issue Certificates of Origin (COOs) for Australian exports, enabling exporters to obtain the key trade documents in minutes through a fully digital, 24/7 process.

A COO is an official document used in international trade to confirm where a product was grown, produced, or manufactured, and is required for customs clearance in the destination country.

Preferential COOs, used under free trade agreements to secure tariff reductions, are in high demand, with hundreds of thousands generated annually for Australian goods.

The accreditation, granted by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ), allows WiseTech to issue both Preferential and Non-Preferential COOs via its CargoWise platform.

The system automatically validates shipment details, checks the correct trade agreement and Harmonised System codes, and can instantly approve repeat applications, reducing errors and delays.

Traditionally handled by Chambers of Commerce, COOs often take hours or days to process. WiseTech says its digital model means exporters, freight forwarders, and regulatory bodies can connect in real time,  helping time-sensitive cargo, such as perishables, move faster while reducing the risk of fines for late departures.

“With Australia operating under 18 free trade agreements and more in the pipeline, the demand for Preferential Certificates of Origin is only going to grow,” says Michael Kheirabi, WiseTech’s Digital Documents Portfolio Leader.

“Our solution offers exporters speed, automation, and 24/7 access, which are critical when you’re trying to avoid fines or keep goods moving on schedule.”

WiseTech has already been authorised to issue Preferential COOs in New Zealand since late 2024, where it is also digitising the country’s tariff system.

In Australia, exporters can now apply for COOs directly through CargoWise or through integrated platforms BSM Global and ImpexDocs, signalling a wider shift toward digital customs solutions across the region.
