Wilhelmsen expands its WA service network

WSS opens new office to meet increased cargo demand

September 23, 2013
Leading maritime company, Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) will open a new office in Geraldton to meet an increase in business opportunities in Western Australia.
WSS General Manager WA Michael Connolly says the company has seen a number of notable successes across the north western ports, allowing it to expand its network across the state.
“By concentrating on the growing port of Geraldton, we are putting ourselves in a strong position to provide ship owners with easy access to our globally-renowned agency service,” Connolly says.
The port of Geraldton is experiencing rapid growth over the last five years, doubling cargo output to 10 million tonnes per annum, with forecasts estimating it will reach 15 million tonnes per annum by 2014.
Geraldton is a hub for dry bulk freight commodities including iron ore, talc, metals, minerals, fertiliser, and grain.
The new office is already operational and has a number of experienced local staff on hand with existing relationships at the port.
“Since the opening, we have received positive response from customers and have quickly built business with local shippers, transport companies, and stevedores.”
Connolly says the company will focus on retaining their high levels of service, continuing to offer competitive rates, and expanding ships agency options for vessels coming in to port.
