WILD Committee gains co-chairs as chairman departs

Group continues to seek the road upgrades in Melbourne’s west

 

Wyndham Industrial Liaison & Development (WILD) Committee, a group which has represented the businesses in the Laverton North Industrial Precinct for the past 20 years, last week appointed co-chairs to replace Mick O’Donnell, who has resigned to pursue other interests.

The newly appointed chairs are Garry Cahoon of One Steel and Jacquelene Brotherton of Oxford Cold Storage.

The main focus of the group in recent years has been lobbying for the duplication of Dohertys Road and the upgrade of the Hume Road and Cherry Lane Intersections, through the Fix Dohertys Road campaign. They are hoping to reinvigorate this campaign in the coming months.

Cahoon has been employed at Onesteel Laverton North as a site services superintendent where he worked in all facets of engineering from planning, design, fabrication, building construction, plant installations & services since the late 60’s early 1970’s. He has worked for Smorgon Steel Group the previous owners of the Steel Mill at Laverton North since 1990.

Before that he was with Smorgon Consolidated Industries since 1973 in the Paper Mill, Meatworks, Plastic Bottle, Property Development areas of their business.

He has been a member of WILD committee since 1993 and of the Wyndham Transport Advisory Committee (WTAC), now called Wyndham Transport Portfolio Committee, since 1995.

Brotherton is chair of the Refrigerated Warehouse and Transport Association (RWTA) transport subcommittee, and is a member of the Western Transport Alliance, the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses Safety Committee and the Global Cold Chain Alliance Supply Chain Operations Committee.
