Western Roads Federation to run workshop on family and domestic violence

The WRF is funding a new workshop that will help transport workers understand the issue of domestic and family violence

The Western Roads Federation (WRF) has stepped up its fight against domestic violence, running a workshop to tackle the issue head on.

The WRF has announced it is uniting with the Domestic Abuse Resource and Training Group for the workshop, which will give participants a greater understanding of domestic and family violence.

It will cover issues like red flags, coercive control and keeping victims safe.

WRF CEO Cam Dumesny says the workshop shows the trucking industry supports the WA government’s ‘16 Days in WA’ anti-domestic violence campaign, which kicks off on November 25 – the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

“How many more headlines do we need to read about people who have been killed by their partner? We commend the WA government for taking such a strong stance against domestic violence and we are proud to do the same,” Dumesny says.

“The Western Roads Federation believes so strongly in this issue that we’re subsidising the cost of the workshop to ensure it’s accessible to as many people as possible.”

Dumesny says trucking is no better nor worse than other industries when it comes to domestic violence, making it important that everyone understands more about “this terrible issue”.

“This workshop will be about educating and it will also be about protecting. The more we all understand the red flags and the behaviour of abusers, the better,” Dumesny says.

“This workshop will teach you how to help an employee who is experiencing domestic violence and how to respond if they’re being abused. You’ll learn how to support them as they recover.

‘Together, I believe we can send the message that domestic and family violence has no place in our society.”

The workshop will be held on December 5, 2023. Enrol at this link.
