Western Australia has successfully rolled out its EV Network, which now stands as one of the world’s longest connected EV charging highways.
The network features 110 charging points across 49 locations between Mundrabulla and Kununurra – a distance of almost 4000km when driving the Western Australian route.
In some isolated locations, the chargers are being supported by standalone power systems drawing on solar and battery storage.
With range being one of the greatest limiting factors of electric heavy vehicle rollout in Australia, the implementation of an EV charging highway throughout some of the most isolated areas of the country could spell long-term benefits for the evolving sector.
“This is an exciting achievement for Western Australia,” Energy, Environment and Climate Action Minister Reece Whitby says.
“Through our investment in the WA EV Network, we have opened out state to EV drivers who can travel from Albany to Kalbarri or Perth to Esperance without the feat of range anxiety.”
Synergy and Horizon Power jointly delivered the EV Network, which forms part of the state government’s $43.5 million investment in EV charging infrastructure.
Time Magazine has already recognised the network as one of the world’s top 100 places to visit thanks to the increased accessibility it will provide motorists.
