Western Australia launches interactive EV website

Expert advice plus informative videos are just some of the features on the WA government’s new electric vehicle website

The Western Australian government has launched a one-stop platform to give electric vehicle (EV) buyers the information they need to make informed choices.

Hosting helpful and informative videos that will assist consumers by providing a buyer’s guide, the EV strategy webpage also busts common myths associated with EV ownership.

“This government initiative isn’t just about getting Western Australians into electric vehicles, it’s also about ensuring the EVs on our roads are powered by reliable and affordable clean energy,” WA climate action minister Reece Whitby says.

“With this transition, we will see a range of benefits that extend beyond emissions reduction.

“It will deliver environmental benefits, new job opportunities, better health and financial outcomes, increased fuel security and cleaner cities along with lower maintenance and running costs for motorists.

“By working together, industry and government can position regional WA and our cities to be driven by cleaner energy and drive WA towards a zero emissions future by 2050.”

It is yet another milestone achieved by WA’s EV strategy. Others include more than 12,000 EVs registered in the state, with EVs also accounting for more than 6.5 per cent of new car sales in WA this year.

Uptake of EVs in WA have also been boosted by 10,000 available rebates of $3,500, 12 EV fast-charging sites being made available and a $130 million investment put into building 130 electric buses, while the ‘ChargeUp’ grant scheme is set to be rolled out to support the installation of more than 400 EV chargers across 200 sites.

Consumers in the market for an EV will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel for a test drive and talk to experts at the Australian Electric Vehicle Association EV Expo this weekend at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
