Weekend deliveries back on-board Australia Post vehicles

Australia Post has announced it has commenced weekend deliveries until Christmas to keep up with service demand

Australia Post has implemented temporary weekend deliveries across Australia in the ramp up to the Christmas period in all metropolitan capitals and select regional cities and towns.

Earlier this year, Australia Post issued a call to the nation’s truck and van drivers in the hopes of hiring them for seasonal work around the holiday period.

Weekend deliveries will remain in place up until Christmas depending on volume.

Australia Post Executive General Manager Gary Starr says the added delivery windows will ensure customers receive their parcels on time.

“We’ve been preparing all year for another busy peak season, recruiting thousands of new team members to ensure operations run as smoothly as possible,” Starr says.

“Last year we delivered nearly 100 million parcels. With the cost-of-living crunch, customers are expected to make the most of major shopping events like Black Friday or Cyber Monday, so we anticipate early Christmas shopping will drive another record-breaking year.”

Australia Post issued a call to truck drivers across the nation as far back as August, when it released its desire to on-board some 3000 staff ahead of the holiday period.

Top of its wish list was heavy vehicle, forklift and van operators, with the highest demand for roles in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.

“With the holiday season just around the corner, we know how important it is for our customers to receive their parcels on time,” Starr says.

“By bringing back weekend deliveries, we’re not just meeting customer demand, but hopefully making holiday shopping easier for everyone.”
