Bridge set for repairs after truck crash

There will be heavy vehicle detours in place at Wallendbeen to repair the temporary road-over-rail bridge following a truck crash

The NHVR has issued a reminder to heavy vehicle operators working in the Wallendbeen area of impending damage repair works to the temporary road over rail bridge on Burley Griffin Way.

The damage was caused by an earlier truck crash. The repairs will change local traffic conditions from Tuesday, January 28 and take up to six days to complete.

The crash occurred in December 2024 and resulted in damage to the structure and a significant diesel spill.

The Silo Road and Morrisons Hill Road intersections with Burley Griffin Way will be closed until work is completed, with detours in place for light and heavy vehicles.

Burley Griffin Way between Stockinbingal and Wallendbeen will be re-opened to traffic on Sunday, 2 February, weather permitting.

Heavy vehicle operators that do not comply with the various detours will need to apply for a permit amendment to travel during the repair work time period. Affected permit holders have already been notified via email.

Transport for NSW’s Live Traffic function will be able to provide up to date information.

A new, permanent road over rail bridge is currently under construction and will return the site to a two-lane crossing once complete. The temporary bridge has been in place since 2021.

The girders for the new permanent bridge were installed during the September 2024 rail super possession weekend, and full construction is expected to be completed this year.
