WABCO earns roll stability approval

WABCO receives European approval for roll stability for semi and heavy trailers

January 22, 2010

Braking and vehicle stability specialist WABCO has received European approval for roll stability for semi and heavy trailers.

The announcement comes as the date for regulations mandating vehicle stability draws closer.

From July this year, semi-trailer and heavy trailers must have a vehicle stability function with rollover control under European regulations.

WABCO says it will be the first company in the industry with trailer rollover control approved for use in all 27 countries in the European Union and in 20 other countries worldwide.

Integrated with WABCO’s Trailer EBS system, the new roll stability system prevents vehicle roll-over within physical limits by analysing vehicle data such as wheel speed, load and lateral acceleration.

Brakes are then automatically applied to reduce speed and to re-stabilise the vehicle.

WABCO says it also offers more beyond the new regulations, such as lift axles and steering axles.

The company says it can adapt roll stability for special vehicle types such as non-standard flatbed semi-trailers with independent wheel suspension.
