VTA offers flood support resources for operators

The VTA is offering assistance to operators in need of assistance following last week’s flood

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) says it will help provide flood support resources to Victorian transport operators impacted by the floods.

The effects of flooding from last week’s rain event in Victoria are being felt right across the state, with the focus now on supporting communities and businesses to recover.

VTA CEO Peter Anderson says the transport industry will play a key role, whilst continuing to support supply chains and facilitate the movement of goods in the local economy.

However, with many roads underwater or closed because of damage, it is far from business as usual.

According to the Victorian government, since the beginning of the flood emergency, 509 roads have been closed, with 150 of these reopened.

Work crews have made progress on repairs on the Hume Freeway, the Western Highway, the Goulburn Valley Freeway and the Murray Valley Highway.

The VTA is encouraging operators to regularly check for updates on the road network. “To help facilitate this, we have published a number of useful links to information detailing road closures and repairs or upgrades to existing transport networks. Please follow this link to quickly access this information,” Anderson says.

“We are encouraged by the initial response from government, with Major Roads Projects Victoria working closely with contractors in a coordinated road repair effort with Regional Roads Victoria.

“As the waters recede, the true impact on our state’s road network will emerge, however it is clear there will need to be funding additional to current allocations for repairs of this size and scale.”

The VTA asks those in need to please contact them on 03 9607 4500 for any assistance or advice.
