The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has congratulated Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Labor Government after claiming victory in the federal election.
To help shape the future of the transport industry, the VTA looks forward to working collaboratively with the new government.
VTA CEO Peter Anderson says now with the election decided, there must be a focus on driving growth, productivity and sustainability in the transport sector.
“Our priorities should include productivity improvements, intermodal connectivity, reforms to the Heavy Vehicle National Law, and changes to driver licensing to attract young people to the industry,” he says.
“Fostering intermodal connectivity is essential and integrating road, rail, air, and sea transport will ensure seamless freight movement, which is vital for maintaining and improving the standard of living for all Australians.
“We look forward to continued advocacy of the development and implementation of a comprehensive intermodal strategy, which should support the integration of various transport modes to handle increasing freight volumes effectively.”
Anderson also reiterated expediting the review and reform of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and the national heavy vehicle driver licensing framework as other priorities.
“These reforms are necessary to ensure we have well-trained and competent drivers from the start of their careers, which is critical for the industry’s safety and efficiency,” he says.
“I look forward to working with incoming ministers to create an environment that supports the efficient and safe movement of goods. Collaboration is essential to achieving these goals and ensuring a resilient and efficient freight system for the years to come.”
