Volvo releases new FM to Euro market

Volvo releases new FM to European market, with a source saying it will come to Australia this year

March 17, 2010

Volvo Trucks has released the latest upgrade of its popular FM model truck in Europe featuring a number of improvements over the existing model.

A new grille, headlights and air intake give the FM a resemblance to the larger FH range while under the skin the trucks will be available with both the new D11 and D13 engines and the updated version of Volvo’s I-Shift transmission.

The upgraded FM is expected to arrive in Australia mid-year, according to a source at Volvo Trucks Australia.

Other changes include plastic lenses for the headlamps rather than glass and a integrated fog and auxiliary lights.

They can be swapped for cornering lights if required, while the indicators are now LED lamps.

Other improvements include larger steel fuel tanks and a redesign of the front steps for cleaning the windshield.

The cab entry steps now feature anti-slip designs.

The President of Volvo’s Europe division, Claes Nilsson, says the new FM is a complete truck, with most of the upgrades simply fine tuning the existing product based on customer responses.

“With the updated Volvo FM, we want to further strengthen this truck’s contribution to the segment and reinforce its position as the best truck for regional transport in its class,” Nilsson says.
