Roads department faces the prospect of being moved more than 100km away from Melbourne’s CBD
The headquarters of Victoria’s road transport authority will be moved to the regional city of Ballarat if the Coalition is re-elected this year.
Victorian Premier Denis Napthine says the Government has chosen Ballarat, just over 100km west of Melbourne, because of its easy access to the State’s capital.
VicRoads’ headquarters is currently based in the Melbourne suburb of Kew.
About 400 jobs will be relocated. Napthine says discussions will be held with VicRoads and its employees about redeployment within the public service for those who do not wish to relocate.
Many senior positions will be moved to Ballarat, along with roles relating to licensing, registration, finance, administration and human resources.
Victorians head to the polls in November.
