Tony O’Connell has been appointed as the new Vice President of Mack Truck Sales by Volvo Group Australia (VGA) and will commence the role in October 2024.

O’Connell has gained extensive experience within VGA having initially joined the company in 2004 from West Australian private dealer Truck Centre, in a Darwin-based Mack aftermarket role.

Since joining the company 20 years ago he has held numerous domestic and international leadership positions at VGA, including most recently serving as Managing Director of Volvo Malaysia.

His two decades of strategic expertise and leadership experience have also seen him hold roles within Volvo Group including Vice President of Aftermarket and Vice President of Volvo Truck Sales Australia.

President and CEO of Volvo Group Australia Martin Merrick believes O’Connell is the perfect person to lead Mack’s transformation in Australia.

“As VP of Mack Trucks Sales Tony will bring his deep industry knowledge, strategic acumen, and passion for excellence to help drive customer success and take the Mack Trucks brand to the next level,” Merrick says.

“It’s fantastic to welcome Tony back to Australia. I’m convinced the experience he has gained in the wider Volvo Group over the past three and a half years will add value to VGA.”

“With Tony O’Connell at the helm, Mack is well-positioned to advance our transformation journey here in Australia.”

O’Connell says he’s looking forward to continuing to build the strong reputation Mack has on Australian shores.

“I’m looking forward to taking the reins of the Mack Trucks brand here in Australia,” O’Connell says.

“For over a century, Mack has forged a well-deserved reputation for reliability, durability, and efficiency and I am excited to join and contribute to that legacy.”

“I am fortunate to lead the Mack Trucks brand during this exciting time, as we navigate and shape the new era of the transport industry,” he added.
