Traffic lights will replace the congested roundabout at Ballan Road, Greens Road and McGrath Road in Melbourne’s southwest suburb of Wyndham Vale in a bid to improve traffic flow through the growing area.
The work, co-funded by the Federal and State government, will involve demolishing the existing roundabout and re-wiring the intersection for traffic lights, with drivers forced to detour via Ballan and Bolton roads until late 2026 while the works are in progress. Drivers are advised to allow an extra 20 minutes travel time.
From early February, right turns from Ballan Road into the shop precincts north and south of Ballan Road will be removed to support safety and traffic flow.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Catherine King says the upgrade will support the wide range of people who use these roads on a daily basis.
“The upgrade of Ballan Road will support local jobs during construction and improve safety and reliability for drivers, pedestrians and freight into the future,” King says.
Victorian Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams says the government understands the challenges created by roadworks for business and is working to limit their impact as much as possible.
“We know how important Ballan Road is for locals and freight, which is why we are staging works to minimise disruption while delivering a safer and more efficient intersection for the long term,” Williams says.
