UD Trucks celebrates 20 years of the iconic Quon

The UD Quon first came onto the scene in 2004. In two decades, it’s become a favourite for Australian heavy-duty truck drivers

UD Trucks is celebrating a special milestone, with its iconic Quon heavy-duty truck bringing up 20 years of safety, dependability and innovation.

The model was first introduced in 2004 to redefine the heavy-duty segment by providing a solution to the growing industry pressures of running costs, sustainability, road handling, comfort and safety.

As the successor to the renowned BigThumb model, the Quon set a new industry benchmark upon its launch by integrating advanced technologies and world-first innovations.

UD Trucks Australia vice president Philippa Wood says the Quon started with industry-first achievements such as the introduction of the Final Low Emission New Diesel System, or FLENDS, and has now evolved since.

“Bringing the Quon to market 20 years ago was driven by UD Trucks’ Better Life purpose, enabling us to deliver a truck that’s better for people, our planet and for business,” Wood says.

“Quon has been at the forefront of addressing evolving challenges, setting new standards and delivering exceptional performance and success to our valued customers across Australia – and many other markets worldwide.

“We now have the safest, most efficient and comfortable Quon range to date and we will continue to go the extra mile and drive innovation forward with our dependable flagship product.”

In 2017, UD Trucks took everything to the next level with the launch of the All New Quon, which is the first Japanese truck with Euro 6 compliant technology.

Backed by more than 2.5 million engineering hours, 6.5 million kilometres of test driving and 15,858 bench tests, the All New Quon included innovative improvements to its engine, transmission and connectivity while also elevating fuel efficiency, sustainability, uptime, safety, payload and drivability standards.

The latest iteration of the Quon is the Enhanced version, which launched in 2023 and featured enhancements to its 11 litre engine.

Now, 20 years after its first launch, the UD Quon includes an extensive suite of safety feature enhancements from Traffic Eye Brake System, or AEB, to Electronic Stability Control and more.
