UD gets trussed up

production company Timbertruss uses UD rigids and prime movers to keep up with deliveries

November 3, 2010

With the continuing demand for pre-fabricated timber roof trusses, Geelong-based production company Timbertruss uses UD rigids and prime movers to keep up with deliveries.

The company’s first UD, a PK10 bought in 2008, impressed purchasing manager Travis McDonald so much he has bought a new UD each time one of the older trucks has come up for replacement.

Since then, Timbertruss has added a second PK, as well as a GW400 prime mover, followed by a pair of GW470 prime movers, all configured with cranes for lifting the packs of trusses on and off the truck.

The PK rigids have the crane mounted on the truck body, while the three GW-series prime movers have the crane fitted to the prime mover, as space is at a premium on the trailers because of the length of the trusses.

McDonald says the company’s 15 drivers all enjoy driving the UD models, and the company says the vehicles have goodfuel economy and driver comfort.
