TT-Line appoints new-look board

Ken Kanofski is one of six new board appointments for TT-Line as the fallout surrounding the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels continues
New TT-Line Chair Ken Kanofski.

Spirit of Tasmania operator TT-Line has confirmed the appointment of a new Chair and Directors following the fallout of the continuing problems plaguing the organisation.

The Spirit of Tasmania IV is currently being mothballed in Scotland due to the inability to upgrade port infrastructure at Devonport to accommodate the larger ship, meaning businesses and freight operators throughout Tasmania are missing out on the improved capacity.

One of the hallmarks of the Spirit IV, and the currently under construction Spirit V, is an almost 60 per cent increase in lane metres for freight and passenger vehicles when compared to the currently in service Spirit I and Spirit II.

Ken Kanofski has been appointed as the new TT-Line Chair following a recruitment process undertaken by Watermark Search International.

Kanofski is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, and is a former CEO and COO of NSW Roads and Maritime (RMS), as well as CEO of Land and Housing Corporation, Department of Finance and Services NSW.

He is also Chair of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, a Director of the Western Sydney International Airport and Commissioner of the NSW Independent Planning Commission.

Tasmania Minister for Transport Eric Abetz says Kanofski and his fellow board appointees will be crucial in ensuring the new Spirit vessels are up and running as part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“The incoming board will be vital in ensuring the new Spirit vessels are operating in Tasmanian waters as soon as possible,” Abetz says.

“I congratulate Mr Kanofski on his appointment. In what is a terrific gain for Tasmania and TT-Line, Mr Kanofski is an outstanding infrastructure expert respected around the nation for his effective work.

“He also has a strong track record of delivery and has done so across a number of key organisations in New South Wales.

“Mr Kanofski’s strong credentials will be complemented by the wealth of experience gained by all new appointees to the TT-Line board – bringing a deep blend of tourism maritime and infrastructure experience.

“This vital experience and knowledge will supercharge Tasmania and TT-Line’s efforts to provide a product and service that dovetails effectively with the sector’s needs, bringing new investment and jobs to the state.”

The new TT-Line Directors appointed alongside Kanofski are:

  • Jill Rossouw
  • Jane Bennett
  • Rear Admiral (Retd) Steve Gilmore AM CSC
  • Christopher Oldfield
  • James Atkins

Yvonne Rundle continues her role as Director and was not part of the recruitment process.

Former Chair Mike Grainger resigned from the position in August, 2024 following the revelation port infrastructure for the new vessels would be delivered overbudget and considerably behind time.
