Truckies urged to beware Sydney long weekend traffic disruptions

Truckies need to watch out for these traffic traps on the long weekend

Truckies are urged to plan ahead this long weekend, with disruptions expected across the freeways in Sydney.

Construction of new shared user bridges at Ridge St, North Sydney and Falcon St, Cammeray will be taking place from Sunday June 9 to Tuesday June 11.

TfNSW coordinator general Howard Collins says this critical bridge construction work is being timed to take advantage of lower-than-normal traffic volumes expected over the long weekend.

“We thank motorists and residents for their patience as we carry out these necessary works,” he says.

“This is the next stage of our major works, following the successful installation of the first part of the Ridge Street shared user bridge on Sunday 26 May.”

Where will be affected?

From 12am to 8am on Monday 10 June, there will be no access to the Warringah Freeway northbound from the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

All northbound motorists, including northbound buses from the Sydney Harbour Bridge must take the Pacific Highway exit.

From 1am to 8am on Monday 10 June, the Warringah Freeway will be closed northbound from the Pacific Highway, North Sydney.  The Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be closed northbound from 1am to 8am on Monday 10 June.

Motorists must use the Cahill Expressway over Circular Quay, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and must take the Pacific Highway northbound.

The Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be closed southbound from:
-    12am to 7am Sunday 9 June
-    12am to 7am Monday 10 June
-    10pm Monday 10 June to 4:30am Tuesday 11 June

Motorists must use the Cahill Expressway southbound and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

At other times during the weekend, there will be changed access arrangements for southbound motorists travelling to the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. Motorists must follow signs and drive with caution.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge will remain open in both directions over the weekend.

Other disruption across the weekend includes the closure of the following ramps along the Warringah Freeway, from 12am Sunday 9 June to 4.30am Tuesday 11 June:

-    the Berry Street northbound on-ramp.
-    the Ernest St northbound off-ramp.
-    the Ernest St southbound on-ramp.

The Falcon St northbound on-ramp will also be closed from:

-    12am – 7am Sun 9 June
-    12am – 7am Mon 10 June
-    10pm Mon 10 June to 04:30am Tue 11 June.

Collins urges motorists to consider using public transport instead of driving, especially if they are visiting Vivid Sydney.

“Thousands of additional services will be running throughout the festival. Plan your journey using or using trip planning apps.”
