Truckie busted speeding on Newell

Truck driver nabbed on the Newell Highway travelling 26km/h over the speed limit

June 12, 2012

NSW Police has issued an infringement notice to a truck driver after he was clocked travelling 26km/h over the speed limit yesterday.

The B-double driver was caught on the Newell Highway near Warkton in western NSW travelling 126km/h about 12.25am.

NSW Police stopped the 44-year-old Queensland resident without incident and issued an infringement notice.

“Due to the vehicle involved being a heavy vehicle and speed limited, a minor defect notice was also issued,” a statement from NSW Police says.

The driver was caught during the Operation Stay Alert, which ran over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Police handed out double demerit points for all speeding, seatbelt and motorcycle helmet offences over the three days.

NSW Police says it will work with the Roads and Maritime Services to address speed-limiter tampering in the trucking industry to prevent fatal and serious injury crashes on the state’s roads.
