Truck simulator to help develop driver monitoring technology
Monash University is calling for truck drivers to take part in a study to help researchers develop new safety items.
The Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) requires heavy vehicle licence holders to partake in two study sessions that involve driving in a simulator and refraining from sleep.
“The aim of this study is to develop a world-leading driver monitoring product that will improve safety and well-being in ways not currently possible,” MUARC says.

A willing participant will have to make two trips to MUARC’s Clayton campus in south-east Melbourne to drive in the truck simulator.
On the second visit, the individual will have to refrain from sleep the night before the session – up to 28 hours’ sleep deprivation.
“You can make a valuable contribution to accident and injury prevention research simply by sharing your experience, time and knowledge with our researchers,” MUARC says.
To entice involvement, MUARC will remunerate participants $360 on completion of the second visit.
