Truck Centre Western Australia (TCWA) founder Max Winkless has had his say on the acquisition of his business by Volvo Group Australia, and says the deal is a recognition of the “incredible work” the company has done since its foundation.
The acquisition of the company was announced by Volvo Group Australia last week, and will see all eight existing branches and service centres fall under the Volvo banner from July 1.
Volvo has said TCWA’s operations will remain the same and existing staff will transition with the business, but Winkless has announced the acquisition will also mark the departure of TCWA CEO Brad Daff after 37 years of service.
“Today is the beginning of a new chapter for Truck Centre WA as we announce we have officially joined forces with Volvo Group Australia, with Volvo Group Australia officially acquiring Truck Centre WA effective 1st July 2025,” Winkless says.
“With this timing in mind (and with a heavy heart) I would also like to announce there will be changes within our leadership team, with the retirement of Brad Daff after 37 years of service. Brad’s leadership has provided Truck Centre WA with tremendous growth, while navigating tough economic conditions and a pandemic. He’s built a legacy within Truck Centre WA and we would like to thank him for his dedication throughout his tenure. Brad will head off into a well-earnt retirement from 1st of July, 2025.
“This acquisition marks a change in ownership, but not a change in operations. TCWA will continue to operate as usual. Together, we’ll be able to offer better solutions to customers.
“This recognises the incredible work our team, suppliers and customers have contributed to build Truck Centre WA to what it is today. People have been at the heart of our success as a business, a value shared by Volvo Group Australia.”
Winkless is often referred to as the father of Volvo Trucks in Australia and was the first person to import the brand into the country back in 1965.
Seeing where we are today, the impact we’ve made, the challenges we’ve overcome together is incredibly humbling,” he continues.
Although the time has come for Brad and I to pass on the baton, I know the company will be in great hands with Volvo Group Australia.”
