Transport Certification Australia gets international demonstration role

Australia’s chief telematics promoter will have a key role in the world congress for intelligent transport systems, in Melbourne next year

The Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress is set to take centre stage in Melbourne next year, with the latest in automated vehicles and smart transport systems on show. And Transport Certification Australia (TCA) will take a lead role, with the telematics expert named official demonstration partner for the event.

TCA CEO Chris Koniditsiotis says the appointment represents a continuation of his organisation’s relationship with ITS Australia, which is organising the five-day event.

“As a national government body supporting the growing use of telematics and related intelligent technologies, TCA is uniquely positioned to coordinate practical, real-world demonstrations for the Congress.”

In its role, TCA will schedule and coordinate a wide range of product and project demonstrations during the Congress.

These are likely to cover everything from cooperative and automated vehicles to future freight innovations and systems for policy standardisation.

“Technical demonstrations and tours that showcase applications of the latest technology will provide an opportunity for policy makers, practitioners, researchers and providers to share information on social needs, opinions and technical developments,” Koniditsiotis says.

The theme for the 2016 event, which will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, is ‘Enhancing Liveable Cities and Communities’.

“We anticipate that the calibre of demonstrations at the congress will achieve the desired impact of informing and convincing government, decision makers, [and] the general public of the benefits of intelligent transport systems,” Koniditsiotis says.

“We look forward to welcoming the intelligent transport systems community to our home in October, 2016.”
