The Maribyrnong Truck Action Group (MTAG) is planning another demonstration in Melbourne’s west in an attempt to swing the Victorian Government’s focus toward addressing heavy vehicle traffic.
MTAG Secretary Martin Wurt says the Government made no attempt to see the group following last month’s protest on Footscray Road.
Up to 200 residents attended the protest to lobby the Government to build infrastructure to remove trucks from local roads.
Wurt says MTAG is planning to block traffic along Somerville Road, which is home to several schools, soon.
“We are just a bunch of frustrated residents and we want to send a clear message that we are not going away,” Wurt says.
“We are not going to let this problem jeopardise us from going on – we are going to keep bringing it up and keep putting pressure on the Government.
“We need change because we know the situation is unjust and we know diesel exhaust damages our health.”
