Staff from DirectHaul, Bunker Freight Lines and Wales Truck Repairs named as finalists for the Craig Roseneder Award
October 3, 2011
This year’s winner of the Craig Roseneder Award will be announced next Monday at the 2011 Paccar and Dealer Technical and Maintenance Conference.
Presented by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) and the Australian Road Transport Suppliers’ Association, the finalist will receive a scholarship to attend the American Trucking Association’s Maintenance Council meeting next year and will receive $1500 in spending money.
The finalists are DirectHaul’s fleet manager Brian Murphy, Bunker Freight Lines’ trailer fleet manager Chris Gass and Wales Truck Repairs’ Managing Director Darren Wales.
ATA Chairman David Simon says the award is a crucial part of the association’s efforts to reward commitment, achievement and excellence in the industry.
Murphy won Apprentice of the Year award in the Northern Territory in the first and fourth years of his diesel mechanic apprenticeship, and has been DirectHaul’s fleet manager since 2005.
He is credited for introducing health and safety procedures including vehicle fault reporting, isolation lockouts and emergency management of tanker rollovers.
The ATA says Murphy has also implemented initiatives to improve the business and customer service.
Gass has been an active participant in the trucking industry for over 28 years and has been a leader in the implementation of a number of trailer innovations, including wiring standards and disc brake technology.
He was an early supporter of the TruckSafe program and was involved in the pilot of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS).
The ATA says Wales has been an integral part of his family business since 1988 when he completed a trade apprenticeship as a panel beater and spray painter.
The ATA labels him as instrumental in the formation of the Australian Heavy Vehicle Repairers’ Association (AHVRA). Wales also implemented a significant environmental program by designing three large truck wash bays that recycle water.
