Toll pours millions into the west to bolster presence

Toll spends more than $140 million in Western Australia as it seeks to increase its presence in the resource-rich state

September 27, 2012

Toll is pouring more than $140 million into its Western Australia operations to increase its presence in the state, with a number of projects due to be completed in the coming months.

The transport and logistics operator says the spend will support its focus on servicing the resource and energy sector, along with growing demand for traditional services.

Toll this year opened a new $54 million express road freight terminal at Hazelmere, while a $47 million interstate rail freight forwarding terminal is due to open early next year in Kewdale.

A new $30 million transport hub based in Gap Ridge is expected to open in mid-2013, following in the footsteps of a $12 million freight terminal in Kununurra that opened this year.

Toll says the investments are in addition to the more than 50 company sites already operating in Western Australia.

“The fully integrated transport hub we’re building in Karratha will create around 40 jobs based in Karratha, not fly-in fly-out,” Toll manager Jason Holmes says.

“But that’s just the beginning. We plan to increase that number further as we grow our operations and other Toll businesses start operating out of the site later next year.”

Holmes says Toll will announce more major developments later this year to snatch a greater share of the resource and energy sector.

Toll has also recently opened a new centralised office in Perth to coordinate Toll’s 17 Western Australia-based businesses.

“The new, centralised office helps us service our customers and enables us to design and implement customised logistics solutions for the resources and energy sectors,” Holmes says.
