Toll Group was named as the winner of the Clean Transport category at the inaugural Supply Chain Excellence Awards APAC, held in Singapore on September 30.
The logistics giant was among 44 companies and 50 entries for the award which celebrates steps taken toward a cleaner transport future.
It was the first time the Supply Chain Excellence Awards had been held in the Asia-Pacific region, expanding on nearly 30 years of history focused mainly on the United States and Europe.
The award recognises Toll’s leadership in sustainable logistics and its transformative approach to decarbonising freight transport across Australia.
Toll’s winning initiative, the largest deployment of battery electric heavy vehicles (BEVs) in Australia’s third-party logistics sector, includes:
- 28 battery electric trucks rolled out across multiple states
- 31 charging ports installed at 10 sites
- A $67 million investment, supported by $9 million in co-funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)
“This recognition highlights what’s possible when government, industry, and customers come together with a shared commitment to sustainability,” Toll Group’s Head of Sustainability Transformation Nureen Shariff says.
“Through collaboration, we’ve accelerated the transition to cleaner transport and demonstrated the impact of collective action.”
On the environmental side, the project delivers measurable impact across multiple fronts:
- Estimated 1,810 tonnes of CO₂ abated annually
- Reduced noise and air pollution in urban areas
- Support for customer Scope 3 emissions reporting
- Operational efficiency gains and future-proofing against fuel volatility
Toll’s approach goes beyond technology deployment. It includes:
- Co-designed vehicle integration with six major customers
- Site infrastructure upgrades in partnership with energy providers
- Workforce training and change management programs
- Academic collaboration to share learnings across the industry
“This award gives recognition to the scale of Toll’s first BEV rollout comprising six customers across three states and 10 sites, along with the complexity we’ve navigated as a team from the initial design phase to operational implementation,” Toll Group’s Head of Product & Solutions Shaun O’Flaherty says.
The Clean Transport Award celebrates organisations driving meaningful change in emissions reduction.
Other transport-related winners at the awards included AAL Shipping with DB Schenker, MSCI & Konecranes for the Cargo Operator Award 2025 and PSA Singapore for the Supply Chain Hub Award.
