Visiting China Road Transport Association delegates will look into implementing Australian practices after a visit to TNT Botany depot

Visiting delegates from the China Road Transport Association (CRTA)
will look into implementing
Australian practices after a visit to TNT’s Botany depot.

Organised by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) the Chinese study tour to TNT’s Port Botany operation was impressed by safety initiatives and the way the Australian transport industry is reducing its carbon footprint.

CTRA Secretary General and Vice President Limei Wang says after visiting the TNT depot she will recommend a number of
best-practice environmental, operational and safety initiatives
in China.

“We have been very impressed with TNT Australia’s operations,” she says.

“The Botany depot is very orderly. The management has a very clear concept of the company’s direction and the concepts are very advanced.

“Safety is on a strategic level, rather than an operations level and TNT management is also very clear about improving operational efficiency,”

Wang says the group was also very impressed by how efficiently the sorters can run, and the environmental efficiencies and considerations taken into account when building the facility.

Making safety strategic and the use of sorters to imporve operational efficiency were the key elements the CRTA aims to
take back with it to China.

Improving environmental practices is also a major consideration.

“Similar to the Australian transport industry, we pay a lot of attention to the environment. It is a very important focus,” Wang says.

Wang says the visitors observed Australian companies to be very advanced in terms of reducing carbon emissions
by increasing vehicle efficiency.

“One of the main differences we have seen is that the condition of the vehicles here is better than in Chinese companies,” she says.

Wang adds ATA Australian member companies such as TNT are also much more advanced in their work to reduce accident rates.

With operations in the Asian market for over 10 years, China is a major TNT partner.

“We see China as the major driving force for our future growth in Asia,” says
TNT Express Australia Managing Director Bob Black.

“We welcome the chance to share ideas on key issues such as environmental practices.”
