Thiess Sedgman JV wins $85m coal project

Thiess Sedgman joint venture wins contract to construct a coal handling and preparation plant at the Codrilla mine

September 28, 2011

The Thiess Sedgman joint venture has been awarded an $85 million contract to design, procure and construct a coal handling and preparation plant at the Codrilla mine.

The mine, located in the Bowen Basin, is being developed by the Coppabella Moorvale joint venture of which Macarthur Coal is a major player.

Mining operations are expected to commence in 2012, but remain subject to final regulatory approvals.

Sedgman Managing Director and CEO Nick Jukes says the company is extremely pleased to further strengthen its relationship with Macarthur Coal.

“One of Sedgman’s major strengths is the close working relationship the Company fosters and develops over time with its clients and this is yet another example of those relationships delivering mutual benefits,” Jukes says.

The Brisbane-based company previously worked with Macarthur on the Coppabella mine in 1999, Moorvale Mine in 2003 and Middlemount Mine in 2007.

Sedgman continues to operate these plants, including stockpile management and train loading functions.
