Tevva announces electric truck mass production

Heavy vehicle brand Tevva has become the first British EV manufacturer to receive approval for a 7.5-tonne electric truck this month

A British electric truck manufacturing company founded by former Israeli submarine officer Asher Bennett is stepping up production of its 7.5-tonne model in the UK and Europe with the target of selling up to 1000 trucks in 2023.

Bennett says the approval of Tevva’s 7.5-tonne model marks a major milestone in the evolution of the product, opening the doors to a wider market and solidifying the truck’s credentials.

Tevva’s founder and CEO says the business is on a mission to make sustainable trucks accessible at scale and that it believes its technology will empower the transport sector and the governments of Europe to meet their net-zero goals.

“By embracing both hydrogen and electric fuel sources, we can rethink the energy mix in transport, reduce strain on our electricity grid and accelerate electric truck adoption,” Bennett says.

The first of Tevva’s mass produced electric trucks have started to be delivered from their UK base to customers including Expect Distribution, Travis Perkins and Royal Mail.

Tevva’s 7.5-tonne electric truck offers a range of up to 227 kilometres from its 105 kWh battery on a single charge, and is described as being ideal for last-mile and urban delivery fleets.

It will be followed later in 2023 by a 7.5t hydrogen-electric truck, which benefits from a hydrogen range-extender that enhances vehicle range to up to 570 kilometres.

The truck has now achieved essential certification for the EU and UK with the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) and the Swedish Transport Agency (STA).

To receive the whole vehicle type approval, the Tevva electric truck underwent 30 system tests, including electric safety and electromagnetic compatibility to the latest standards.
