Terberg takes on waste and recycling operations

Yard tractor modified for task and put to council work at Victorian depot

Yard tractor firm Terberg’s efforts to prove the versatility of the vehicle are paying off with one pathfinding in the waste and recycling industry.

A Terberg YT220 series in a 4×2 configuration was recently specified to handle the waste transfer trailers at the busy Boroondara Waste and Recycling Depot in Victoria, the company says.

It quotes council officers Wes Gunn and Rob Browne there are up to 20 waste trailer movements out of the depot each day and the facility handles all waste transfers, including green waste, for the Hawthorn and Camberwell councils.

Boroondara had used prime movers for shunting work but had opted for the yard tractor on manoeuvrability, productivity and safety grounds.

It was specifically modified for its application being fitted with a 320-litre hydraulic tank, PTO and pump together with hydraulic hosing and a special electrical switch console to allow the operator to control the complex hydraulic demands of the auxiliary and main rear doors and ejector blade in the trailer.

Other features include a Cummins QSB 6.7 litre electronic engine rated at 164kW (220hp) driving through an Allison fully automatic transmission and planetary axles. This combination delivers a GCM of up to 85 tonne.

Terberg vehicles, which are sold andsupported by Clark Equipment in Australia and New Zealand, will be on display at the 2015 Brisbane Truck Show – Stand 17 in The Great Hall.
