A Tasmanian truck driver has been back-paid $7,500 after his employer failed to pay him the correct minimum hourly rate.
The Lillydale driver shared in a total of $54,700 recovered for workers across the state after a Fair Work Ombudsman investigation.
The company reimbursed the driver after Fair Work inspectors informed it of the underpayments.
Inspector Nicholas Wilson says all businesses required to back-pay employees have now put in place processes to ensure underpayments do not happen again.
“It’s a fact that some businesses inadvertently breach workplace laws. When we find mistakes, we’re here to help and give practical advice to employers on how to voluntarily fix them,” Wilson says.
The Ombudsman does not name businesses unless it launches legal action against them.
