Submissions called for into NSW Grain Freight Review, which will look at ways to improve the State's grain transport network
Submissions are being called for into the NSW Grain Freight Review, which will look at ways to improve the State’s grain transport network.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese and Minister for Agriculture Tony Burke are urging transport operators and producers to make a submission to the review, which will be handed to the Government by the end of May.
A key part of the initiative is expected to focus on infrastructure, with Albanese saying it is essential to support farming industries and the grain sector in general.
Burke says the Government is “looking at long-term infrastructure needs” to ensure the grain sector maintains its vital economic role.
“A majority of Australia’s wheat is exported to important markets such as Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Sudan,” Burke says.
Submissions will be assessed according to three areas the Government wants addressed.
This includes issues relating to changes in production patterns and exports for grain, transport, storage and handling efficiency and the implications for regional communities and the environment.
A submissions paper can be downloaded from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development website or obtained by calling 1800 044 938.
The closing date for submissions is March 17.
