Study to inform future of Shepparton freight sector

$70,000 of state government funding has been allocated to the City of Greater Shepparton for a land use pattern study

The City of Greater Shepparton has partnered with the Victorian government to implement its Greater Shepparton Integrated Transport and Land Use study.

Shepparton plays a key role in northern Victoria’s logistics, freight and warehouse distribution activities, and the collaboration will see $100,000 put towards a study to update freight and industry trends and changing land-use patterns to inform any decision making for the future transport needs of Shepparton and surrounding communities.

The City of Greater Shepparton will contribute $30,000 to the project, while the state government will invest $70,000 to the project.

The study will help guide planning for economic development in the region, particularly surrounding the continued growth of the transport logistics, manufacturing, agriculture and tourism industries to inform better service planning decisions at the local level.

“Northern Victoria plays a key role across our freight and logistics industries and this important study will help inform future decision making when it comes to improving the local transport network,” Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne says.

“This study will identify transport industry trends which will provide a strong evidence base to guide future investment decisions.”

The Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program, through which this state government funding has been allocated, provides funding to local government and community organisations for small-scale transport projects, evidence-based transport studies and funding to redesign and trial new ways in which transport services at a local level can be delivered across the state.
