Sterle announced as Chair of Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Committee

The WA Senator will chair the steering committee to help build future rest area projects

Australian senator Glenn Sterle has been announced as the chair of the Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Committee.

After buying his first truck at age 20, Sterle says he understands the needs of Australian truck drivers.

The committee comes after the federal government delivered an additional $80 million in its first budget for new and upgraded heavy vehicle rest areas.

The committee, led by Sterle, will steer through the process and allow truckies to have their voice on future projects funded by the initiative.

“As a former truck driver with more than 40 years’ experience and who still drives trucks to raise money for charity, it’s an honour to be invited by the assistant infrastructure and transport minister Carol Brown to chair the government’s Heavy Vehicle Rest Area Steering Committee,” Sterle says.

“A key aspect of the steering committee will be the membership of long-haul truckies, with their input being crucial.

“Never before have truck drivers been consulted like this, and I’m very proud that the Albanese government has delivered on this commitment. I’m looking forward to getting to work!”
