Transport companies have been told they need to place greater emphasis on the use of mobile devices to find the right employee.
Fiona Le Brocq from online job-search site Seek used her appearance at Freight Week 2013 to highlight the growing number of jobseekers using mobile devices to look for jobs.
Le Brocq, who is Seek’s marketing director, says 15 million people each month are accessing Seek’s site using a mobile device.
She says there were 2 million jobs downloaded on iPhones and another 100,000 on iPads in the past year.
“Mobile visits to Seek have increased by 50 per cent in the last 12 months,” Le Brocq says.
She says businesses tapping into social media as a recruitment tool also need to adopt a particular style to engage potential applicants.
“Being socially connected as an organisation will demand even greater human traits rather than institutional traits – being professional sometimes can be a barrier to human interaction,” Le Brocq says.
“Make sure the tone is a human tone, conversational, because that will get people engaged.”
Le Brocq also told Freight Week attendees more people are choosing experience over pay and believe development in a career is important.
“Experiences will continue to be prized over just financial incentives and opportunities for ongoing learning will also be more important than money; people will stay because they’re growing,” she says.
