Skoda Group acquires digital rail system safety developer

The new Skoda acquisition allows it to enhance its autonomous product range

In a major boost for its signalling software, Skoda Group has acquired digital rail system safety developer the Signalling Company.

Skoda has acquired a 93.9 per cent stake in the Belgian digital developer to allow it to expand into modern mobility systems.

This follows Skoda’s acquisition of the Austrian operations of Molinari Rail earlier this year.

The remaining stake of the Signalling Company will stay with the company’s two executives.

The Signalling Company designs safety software that’s fully compatible with the latest standards and applies to autonomous mobility.

“Expanding our portfolio with our own signalling solutions is important to Skoda’s success in European markets, especially western Europe,” Skoda Group CEO Didier Pfleger says.

Skoda says this acquisition will boost its competitiveness with major European train manufacturers as it allows the company to offer a full range of products and services to European operators.

The integration of the Signalling Company means Skoda will create its own business line, with Stanislas Pinte appointed as vice president of signalling at Skoda.

“With the entry of a large and successful partner into our company, there are further great opportunities for growth in the signalling business,” Pinte says.

“Skoda’s investment and its connection with such a major European rolling stock manufacturer will allow us to gain access into the European market.”
