Silk keeps eye on the market for best and brightest

Fresh from poaching K&S veteran, Silk vows to continue to bolster its management team with top talent

Silk Logistics will continue to bolster its management with top freight industry talent, Chairman John Clifford has told ATN.

Fresh from luring K&S Freighters Executive General Manager Steve Fanning and former Westgate Logistics, Patrick Corporation and Linfox executive John Dixon, Clifford says he is “delighted to be attracting an industry heavyweight to Silk” in Fanning.

Clifford says Silk will not stop looking for the best industry players to strengthen management performance.

“We have and we will always continue to build our team,” he says.

Established in 2008, Clifford says Silk will look to grow organically and by acquisition.

However he declined to talk about prospective takeover targets or Silk’s future plans.

“In relation to acquisition projects, we won’t talk about them until we’ve done them,” he says.

“There is nothing imminent.”

As reported by ATN, Fanning will take on the job of general manager of freight at Silk next month.

After 16 years with K&S, Fanning says it is “time for a change”.

“The exciting thing, going forward, is that they are looking to grow the business substantially,” he says of Silk.

Funded by private equity firm Gresham Partners as an umbrella group, Silk comprises five leading privately-owned operators: Kagan Logistics, Hoffmanns Transport, Doolan’s Heavy Haulage, Bunker Freight Lines and WA Freight Group.
