Manufacturer Siemens has signed an MoC that is set to boost rail technology around Australia
The National Transport Commission (NTC) has announced that rail and technology manufacturer Siemens has signed a historic agreement with Australian ministers to commit to improving national rail interoperability.
In a major boost for the rail industry, Siemens has agreed to work with Australian transport and infrastructure ministers on this task.
Siemens Australia and New Zealand CEO Raphaelle Guerineau signed the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for rail interoperability alongside NTC CEO Michael Hopkins at Siemens’ Port Melbourne manufacturing facility.
This facility already supplies locally built rail infrastructure and technology across Australia and Asia.
The MoC is part of the National Rail Action Plan and supports government and industry efforts to consider national interoperability when planning future rail investments.
The NTC says working together with Siemens and government will be the catalyst that delivers an Australian rail network that works smoothly across state borders while using technologies and systems.
“Thank you to Siemens and other MoC signatories, which includes transport ministers from the Commonwealth and state governments, Alstom, Aurizon, ARTC and rail operators,” the NTC says.
