Scania turns to Porsche for cab design

Scania turns to Porsche to design a new cab range for the next generation of trucks

August 31, 2010

With European trucks often described as the luxury models of the truck world, Swedish manufacturer Scania is going all out to differentiate itself from the competition with the design of its new cab range.

While the current crop of Scanias are some of the best looking trucks on the road, the new generation is expected to have an extra dash of panache thanks to a deal with Porsche Engineering to pen the next model series.

Unfortunately for those expecting a cross between a G-Series and a 930, Porsche Engineering is the industrial design arm of the sports car manufacturer, and is separate from the car design unit.

“In Porsche Engineering we have found a partner that shares Scania’s values and views on development and production. We will develop a cab frame together that is optimised for Scania’s requirements on styling and functionality, as well as for rational production,” Scania Executive Vice President Per Hallberg says.

As well as design capabilities, Porsche Engineering Group provides highly advanced engineering services in areas such as material analysis and structural testing, with customers from a range of automotive and other industrial customers.
