Fuel consumption to be the same as Euro 5 models
April 4, 2011
Scania is ready to roll out its Euro 6-compliant long-haul engines for the European market, with the Swedish truckmaker saying the cut in emissions will come with fuel consumption on a par with its Euro 5 products.
In unveiling its 440 hp and 480 hp 13-litre Euro 6 engines, Scania says they will also be suitable for other types of applications.
Euro 6 emission standards will start entering into force in the European Union and someneighbouring countries on December 31, 2012.
“We have combined all the new technologies that Scania has developed in recent years: exhaust gas recirculation, variable turbo geometry, common-rail high-pressure fuel injection, selective catalytic reduction and particulate filtering,” Jonas Hofstedt, Scania’s Senior Vice President Powertrain Development, says.
“Add to that our own engine and exhaust management technology, which has now been integrated into one system.”
The engines will be available across the G- and R-series ranges while 8x2s and 8x4s will follow next year.
