SA Black Spot program fully funded

$8.9 million has been committed to South Australia’s Black Spot program to ensure the road safety upgrades are fully funded

The federal and South Australian state governments have fully funded SA’s Black Spot program to the tune of $8.9 million over the 2024-25 period.

The money will fund the upgrades of 13 Black Spot projects across the state, where 117 lives were lost in fatal crashes in 2023 alone.

Improvements including a new roundabout, improved line-markings and safety barriers and a new scramble crossing will be completed at the variety of sites nominated by a consultative panel.

The South Australian Consultative Panel was made up of representatives from the SA Freight Council, SA Police, the Traffic Management Association of Australia, local government associations and the Royal Automobile Association.

Black Spot program funding has increased from $100 million to $150 million under the current federal government.

Roads to Recovery funding has also increased from $500 million to $650 million this year and will continue to increase to $1 billion from 2027-28 inwards.
