Trucking firms Ryans Transport and Allens Freight will pool resources to service customers.
Victorian Transport operator Ryans Transport has teamed up with Allens Freight to service customers more efficiently in the state’s south-west.
The Warrnambool companies will share the delivery of freight, with Allens carrying smaller and express freight and Ryans focusing on larger linehaul components.
Both will service each other’s customers and work out of the same premises in Portland and Hamilton, with Warrnambool to follow in the coming months.
The venture, which has been in the pipeline for a few months, comes with benefits, Ryans managing director Graham Ryan says.
“It answers to the three main criteria for our business: sustainability, safety and environment,” Ryan says.
“It opens up new opportunities for growth, with both businesses able to attract further customers through greater depth of service, a reduction in environmental footprint, and all the while making sure the customer is at the forefront of any decisions we make collectively.
“Customers will now be seamlessly serviced by the one supply chain and with additional services available to them,” he adds.
Allens Freight operations manager Richard Allen says the partnership will see fewer trucks on the roads.
“In the past we would compete in some sectors of the supply chain and we would have both trucks travelling down the same roads making deliveries. Now we are both able to concentrate on core business (which) means less trucks on our roads,” Allen says.
Warrnambool Council acting chief executive Bill Millard has welcomed the move, saying it is good news for the locals.
“This is a positive announcement for Warrnambool and the wider region that will position two local transport businesses to seek further opportunities for growth,” Millard says.
The venture starts on October 6, with Ryan’s Derrimut facility in Melbourne continuing to be the gateway to the south-west region.
Both businesses will operate out of Hamilton, Portland and Warrnambool with 150 trucks between them.
