Rural NSW prepares for harvest traffic

Rural NSW is gearing up for harvest season truck and train traffic

November 20, 2012

Rural New South Wales residents have been warned to prepare for increased heavy vehicle and train traffic, as farmers prepare for harvest season.

Transport for NSW Centre for Road Safety General Manager Marg Prendergast says heavy vehicle movements will increase, rail lines will
come to life, and farming machinery will travel on roads.

“Grain harvest season in NSW begins in the state’s north in mid-November and continues statewide until the end of January,” Prendergast says.

According to Transport for NSW, some rail lines in farming areas are used only to transport harvested crops so will be busy with trains heading in both directions during the harvest months.

Transport for NSW says the department has worked with the farming community to keep heavy vehicle movements at the lowest possible number.
