Rugged T-Way tackling off road challenges for Iveco

First it was the S-Way prime mover, now its the T-Way off-road truck as Iveco rolls out its latest series of heavy vehicle tech and styling to the Australian market

Tough trucks built to deal with sloping sites, gravel and dirt roads, and tasks such as mining, exploration, water cartage, agricultural spreading, forestry work and tipping are how Iveco describes its new T-Way range.

While the T-Way shares some of the modern cab stylings of its on-road compatriot the S-Way model, and the latest Euro 6 (Step E) engine range, it’s the extra design touches that make it perfect for rough work.

Available in 4×4, 6×6 and 8×4 configurations with GVM/GCM of 20,500kg/44,000kg, 33,500kg/60,000kg and 41,000kg/60,000kg respectively, the T-Way also comes in four different wheelbase lengths ranging from 3800mm to 5820mm.

Its off-road features include full-time drive systems in the 4×4 and 6×6 variants, with drive to the rear axles in the 8×4 variant.

All vehicles are also equipped with hub reduction to all drive axles and front, centre and rear differential locks (rear only in the 8×4) to provide superior traction in slippery conditions. The two-speed transfer case is designed to provide excellent tractability in low range, allowing T-Way to overcome steep ascents and descents easily and safely.

Further aiding off-road capabilities is a generous 33° approach angle, while minimum front and rear ground clearance of 346mm and 284mm respectively with standard tyres, provides the ability to negotiate muddy or uneven ground more easily.

The new Iveco interior has it all at the driver’s fingertips

T-Way models feature a steel chassis with a 10mm thick frame that allows better flex and articulation over rough ground. A towing cross member and front tow hook also come as standard.

Suspension is in the form of front parabolic suspension with dampers and stabiliser bar and rear 3-Leaf parabolic suspension with stabiliser bar in the AD 4×5 and AD 6×6 modles.

In the AD 8×4 it is a front parabolic suspension with dampener and rear 4-Leaf parabolic suspension – and the option of pneumatic suspension (8 bag).

The new models feature a wide range of safety enhancements, including an electronic braking system, and a transmission intarder and engine brake.

There are four engines on offer ranging from the standard Cursor 9 in the AD 4×4 with its six cylinders producing 360hp and 1,650Nm of torque at 925rpm, to the Cursor 13 in the dual steer T-Way AD 8×4 which has a 12.9 litre displacement and produces 510hp and 2,300Nm of torque from 900rpm.

Emission control on all engines comes courtesy of Iveco’s patented Hi-eSCR after-treatment with Diesel Oxydation Catalyst, Diesel Particulate Filter, Selective Catalytic Reduction and Clean Up Catalyst.

The transmissions range from a 12 speed Hi-Tronix Automated Manual Transmission in the AD 4×4 to a 16-speed Hi-Tronix AMT in the bigger trucks.

The new T-Way is available for ordering now from Iveco Dealerships nationwide and is being sold with a standard warranty of 2 Years / 500,000km / 6,000 engine hours.
