Trucking operators now able to access interactive and up-to-date RAV map in NSW

NSW has flicked the switch on a new heavy vehicle map service, announcing an interactive system for operators trying to find out which routes are approved for their trucks.
The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has overhauled its restricted access vehicle (RAV) map service, doing away with a static PDF map which had to be downloaded from the department’s website.
Operators can now use their desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices to detail the types of vehicles they intend to use on NSW roads. The service will then display routes they can take, with the information laid out across a map of the state.
“Whether they operate a B-double of any length, a road train or an overheight vehicle, the new service will bring up a tailored map showing exactly which routes are available to them,” an RMS spokesperson says.
“This new tool will be regularly updated and features will be progressively introduced to provide heavy vehicle drivers with an easier way to plan their journeys and ensure they comply with approved routes.”
The RAV map provide details for B-doubles, 4.6 metre high vehicles and road trains.
The old system that used a PDF map was only updated on a quarterly basis, but the RMS says the new interactive map will be updated each fortnight.
The department is also spruiking the mobile availability of the service, saying it is accessible anywhere and at anytime on multiple devices.
It says the map allow users to zoom in on sections of the map, select different views and access local street images.
