Both light-duty commercial vehicle ranges suffer from safety faults
Renault Australia has recalled a select number of Kangoo II and Trafic III models over two different passenger safety issues.
According to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) notice, Kangoo II (X61) transformed by GRUAU models pose a “risk of rear bench seat backrest mounting bolts breaking.”
“Risk of noise or detachment of the rear bench seat backrest, which may result in partial or full loss of the protection performance of the backrest, potentially causing injury to the passenger should the vehicle come to a sudden halt,” the ACCC notice says.
In the case of the Trafic models, the issue surrounds missing passenger airbag mounting screws.
“There is risk of improper passenger airbag deployment which may potentially increase injury to the passenger during an accident,” the second notice says.
Both sets of vehicle were sold nationally.
For Kangoo owners, a Renault dealer will contact them to arrange an inspection and rectification, which would involve the replacement of the two rear bench seat backrest mounting bolts.
For Trafic owners, Renault says they should contact their nearest dealer to arrange a “check for presence of passenger airbag mounting screws. Any necessary rectification will be carried out free of charge.”
